It is likely that Silvar in Avernum was given the same name by a founder who was homesick. In Avernum 4, Silvar was one of the most endangered towns, being invaded by the Black Shade of Ice that changes its location (the location being Formello to the north). The location that the Shade chose was the former Barracks, killing a lot of soldiers while settling there and maddening a few of the Town's residents. Unfortunately, one of those residents was its current Mayor. The situation was like this until the arrival of a small group of Adventurers (later known as the Shade Killers) aided by The Castle's alchemist Correlea managed to find a way to destroy the Shade, freeing Silvar from its curse. In Avernum 6, Silvar was a normal town, minding its business until it was filled with refugees from the Great Portal after its destruction. This annoyed the Captain and the soldiers, but they let them in since it was the Mayor's order to do so. The refugees stayed in a cramped corner in the east part of town, helped by an escaped female Empire citizen who healed them.

One day, a man named Wetzel said that the bridge that leads to the rest of Avernum should be destroyed to stop the Slith Horde from proceeding further. However, his idea was denied so he tried to rebel, taking a bunch of refugees to help him out. Mayor Augustus was infuriated by this deed. He sent a group of adventurers (known as the Horde Triad Slayers) to kill Wetzel. No matter how the rogue refugee is dealt with, Silvar becomes a peaceful settlement once again, albeit still troubled by the Sliths. or still standing, at the very least.Ĭulture Trading with merchants and adventurers It is unknown if Silvar was fully abandoned, but can be assumed that, being one of Avernum's biggest cities, it still has residents left who are making sure that it is well-defended from the enemies who are lurking in the shadows around it. Silvar is well-known for its bountiful ways of trading- both from land and sea, giving it a great advantage over other Forts and Towns in the Eastern Gallery. This continued until Avernum 4 when sea monsters started appearing in the waters and sea trade was nearly impossible, forcing merchants to continue traveling by land to reach Silvar and trade their supplies.īoat travel was also made unavailable from Avernum IV and onward, forcing the players to find other ways to the previously reachable islands, most frequently via underground caves. It is unknown whether they were able to trade with Empire merchants as well or not.Īlthough it is a very prosperous town, Silvar is also known as one of the places that has the most refugees.

The settlement of refugees began in Avernum II when the city of Cotra was destroyed and a large amount of the surviving citizens arrived in Silvar where they were placed to live in the far east corner of the town. In Avernum IV, the city still has refugees, showing that not all of them were sent away after Cotra was rebuilt. In Avernum VI, it is shown that a lot of people traveled to Silvar after the Great Portal was destroyed and stayed there as refugees, filling the previously calmer corner of the city and disturbing the guards solely with their presence. One of the most prominent refugees is Wetzel who lives in the sewers under the city. If Wetzel is killed, the refugees become angry about this and make it harder for the guards to deal with them.
